It begins innocently enough.....

Harmless?
loos2_5inch.jpg
....no way! The beginning of a "sea monster"

..... a pretty little plant... a pink flower on a stalk - maybe sort of lavender. What a beautiful sight, reflected in the water as it is. How can such an innocent little thing harm the ecology of our pristine lake?

It will spread by the roots... it will spread by reseeding... any and all parts of it that break off will land in the lake and take root... it is purple loosestrife. Purple loosestrife and it's fellow exotic import, Eurasian milfoil (shown in border background), have invaded Hackert Lake and are growing fast!

Each has the capability to devour the oxygen in a lake and smother the fish and all other creatures living in the lake. Isn't it time we did something about it?

Pictures are actual photos of Hackert Lake. The loosestrife is growing rampantly everywhere; but this is a shot of one place where it's just beginning a new site.
